Featured Community Activities:
Ellis County Youth Expo
A springtime annual event supporting the youth of Ellis county, the expo raises money for educational scholarships given to graduating seniors who are a member of a 4-H club or FFA chapter within Ellis County. Trent Lander, Senior Project Manager at Building Solutions, leads the BBQ cooking (brisket, pork butt, and sausage) that feeds over 1,000 people. The event typically raises over $750,000. Trent has been a volunteer for this organization for a number of years. Learn more at ecyexpo.com.
Walk MS is the largest gathering in the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) movement and raises funds to change the world for people with MS. Maurin McCutchen, Senior Associate at Building Solutions, is a regular participant in this event (rain or shine). There are walks held in many cities across the nation and Maurin chooses to participate in the event held in Washington, DC. Learn more here about how you may participate in a future Walk MS.
Big Thought equips youth in marginalized communities to imagine and create their best lives and world, through arts education, out of school time systems, summer learning and juvenile justice intervention. Dennis Palmer is participating with a blue-ribbon committee which is seeking a long term vision and strategic plan concerning the service delivery of the Dallas chapter, one of six in the United States.
St. Philip’s School and Community Center
St. Philip’s is a 75-year old institution in south Dallas that has served a marginalized neighborhood and the larger communities of minority residents of the greater Dallas area with an ISAS accredited preK-6 school and community center that serves over 1000 youth and adults with a wide range of programs. Building Solutions and employees have contributed a substantial amount of volunteer time and services for over a decade, led by Bill Keslar who is currently a Trustee, member of the Executive Committee, Finance Committee, and leads the Building and Grounds Committee.
Cristo Rey Dallas College Preparatory School
Cristo Rey Dallas delivers a career focused education in the Catholic tradition for students with limited economic resources, uniquely integrating rigorous academic curricula with four years of professional work experience. Building Solutions is a work study Job Partner, engaging four students in 2020 who are job sharing under the direction of William Dillard, our Director of Marketing. Our partnership provides scholarship assistance, mentoring, and work experience to these deserving youth.
