Description

A Pre-K-12 charter school enrolling over 1700 students, Advantage Academy was in need of additional facilities to support current and future enrollment. The project included existing campus renovation of two 9,000 sf buildings, an addition that includes administration, food services, and dining, and site improvements.

The Situation

The Academy awarded Building Solutions the Project Management role and the team brought vital technical knowledge to the owner in conducting an architect and contractor selection process, scheduling, budgeting, and managing city approvals.


Value Added by Building Solutions

The City of Dallas was imposing a building code change that required certain facilities to include a storm shelter. This project fell into these requirements. The team was approaching the deadline and coordinated with the selected architect and the City ensuring construction documents were submitted for permit before the code changes came into effect. Missing this deadline would have caused substantial increases in cost and delay to the project, which the team and the Academy could not afford.

 

Respecting the surrounding neighborhood and local businesses, the team continued positive relationships between the Academy and their neighbors by having conversations and meetings focusing on their needs and resolving concerns before becoming issues which may hinder the timeliness of the project.
