Controls La Academia de Estrellas Charter School Square Feet: 100,000 Stories: 2 Services: Consulting, Project Leadership Description La Academia de Estrellas Charter School, serving grades Pre- K-8, was established in 2003 to provide innovative learning opportunities for students by honoring diverse cultures, languages, backgrounds and academic abilities. The school was occupying temporary space in multiple locations, mainly church facilities, when it hired a design build contractor for their new consolidated facility. During the design phase, the School retained Building Solutions as the Owner Representative to address challenges they faced in meeting their budget, quality, and schedule goals. After facilitating adjustments to the project delivery process, construction began within 3 months and was scheduled for completion in 9 ½ months. Photo Gallery ) ) ) The Situation Building Solutions brought vital technical knowledge to the owner’s side of the table, enabling the School to overcome schedule, city entitlement, and contractor-capability issues. When initially engaged, the owner risked postponement of the project for an entire year, possibly jeopardizing the School’s ability to serve its current constituents. We also obtained the necessary resources to resolve the major challenges, from those in our professional network. Under Building Solutions leadership, the design and construction team was reconstituted to meet lender requirements and the project redesigned slightly to fall within budget parameters that allowed it to move forward immediately. The project team was selected, zoning issues resolved, and the building redesigned and constructed in a period of 12 months. |
